James Tolleth

perthshire_county-svgMy great great great grandfather James Tolleth, his first wife Charlott and their oldest daughter Agnes came to America from Kilmarnock Ary, Scotland in 1844 on the ship the James Moran. Before Charlott died she bore him 5 children. Here are some excerpts from local newspapers after his death in 1898….

Tecumseh Chieftain states James was buried in Vesta cemetery Monday afternoon. Dr. Stewart preached the funeral sermon. Dr. Stewart was born in Perth and was a friend of James. Age stated in the obituary was 82. Monday would have been May 23. Date is calculated.

First wife was Charlott Augusta Leopold Neil born 7 May 1819 in Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland. James married her 16 Mar 1838
in Kilmarnock Scotland. Charlott and oldest daughter Agnes immigrated to US, New York City on 6 Jun 1844. The traveled on ship “James Moran” leaving from Glasgow. Charlott died aft 1855 bef 1860
James and Charlott had five children:
Agnes born 28 Jun 1839 Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland married Phineas Jones brother to James second wife Martha Jones
Ann born 19 Aug 1846 NY married George Dougherty

Charlott born abt 1849 NY died before 1855
